INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

Membership in European and international accreditation organizations

Membership in the European co-operation for Accreditation

The Accreditation Body of Montenegro (ATCG) was granted full membership status in the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) at the 28th meeting of the EA General Assembly, held on 23–24 November 2011 in Warsaw.

In accordance with the applicable membership classification established in the EA Articles of Association, ATCG holds the status of a Category A Full Member, which represents the highest level of membership and entails full rights to participate in the work and decision-making processes within EA.

As a Full Member, ATCG carries out accreditation activities in compliance with EA rules, normative documents and guidance, as well as relevant harmonised standards in the field of accreditation.

Full membership requires participation in decision-making on matters related to the organisation and functioning of EA, compliance with the decisions of its governing bodies, participation in the peer evaluation system, and the achievement and maintenance of signatory status to the EA Multilateral Agreement (EA MLA). It also includes participation in the development of normative documents and guidance adopted by EA for the purpose of harmonising accreditation processes.

Membership further entails the promotion of regional recognition of accredited certificates and reports, exchange of information with other EA members, handling of complaints-related matters, and consistent compliance with confidentiality rules and financial obligations towards EA.

ATCG continuously contributes to the work of EA by delegating representatives to official meetings of EA bodies and committees, participating in decision-making procedures and in the development of normative and other documents, while maintaining regular communication with the EA Secretariat.

The document confirming the granting of EA Full Membership status is available below on this page.

Membership in an International Accreditation Organisation

Since April 2009, ATCG has held the status of an Associate Member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). Through this status, ATCG participated in the work of ILAC and contributed to the development of normative and other documents adopted by the organisation, but without decision-making rights or the right to final voting.

ATCG did not hold membership status in the International Accreditation Forum (IAF).

In the second half of 2025, following a multi-year integration process of ILAC and IAF, a new unified international accreditation organisation was established under the name Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated. The organisation officially commenced its operations on 1 January 2026.

On 15 October 2025, ATCG submitted an application for Associate Membership in this newly established international accreditation organisation. Associate Membership status was confirmed at the Constitutive Meeting of the General Assembly, held on 24 October 2025 in Bangkok. The document confirming ATCG’s Associate Membership status in Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated is available below on this page.

As an Associate Member, ATCG participates in the work of the organisation, but without decision-making rights.

The next strategic step is to obtain signatory status to the Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MRA) at the global level, which is a key prerequisite for Full Membership in this international organisation.

During 2026, ATCG will initiate activities aimed at fulfilling the requirements for signing the MRA and obtaining Full Membership status in Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, thereby further strengthening the international recognition of the national accreditation system and its full integration into the global accreditation framework.
